quote #1

" Irony is delicious and distasteful, soft and savage. Irony is not to be trifled with. Its very essence was that it could never be predicted" (PG.3) The reason this quote is is.hmeaningfu is for what it says itself. .T.hat the point of irony is to showing something that makes un of another thing. THe reason its significant because irony tends to happen alot in courtrooms and the quotes in a section where they talk about incident that were taken to court. Questions: 1) what is the reason one uses irony in a court case and what makes it significant? 2) .when is irony good and when is it bad?

  1. It would be a mistake for anyone to use irony purposefully in a court case. It's simply that irony occurs (accidentally, that's what makes it ironic) during some cases. To use irony is dangerous, for, as the defense attorneys observe, there is simply too much unintelligence that abounds amongst clients, judges, and juries alike. To be purposefully ironic would be dangerous, because people would or could construe it as literal. Irony simply occurs, and with tragic results at times (that's why it should "not be trifled with."

  2. Well people use irony during a courtcase because they want to play mind games with the jurors and the judge. Also because they want to exagerate their evidence.
